Split and combine to reach the end!
Description / This was made for GMTK Jam 2021 but I wasn’t able to finish in time – life got in the way – so I decided to finish it in my spare time!
In this game, you are trying to reach the goal by jumping between platforms and avoiding all the red objects. By touching a green object, you can split in two or combine into a single being. When you have split into two beings, the left and right being are mirrored (meaning if you move left with the left being, the right will move right).
Controls /
- Arrows to move left or right
- Space to jump
- Touch the green object to split or combine
- Touch the yellow object to finish the level
- Avoid red objects or you restart the level
Inspiration / To be honest, I’m not quite sure where the inspiration for this game came from. This was the first thing I thought of when I heard the theme for the game jam so I thought I should explore that concept. It seemed like it would lead to some fun game mechanics.
Problems / I set the camera too close to the platforms so this made it so that I could include less than I wanted to in the level. I originally imagined having platforms 4 or 5 wide to each side but this was not possible because of the camera angle. Were this not a game created ostensibly for a game jam, I might readjust things but I did not have the time to dedicate to it, so I left it as it was.
